‘Can’t Accept Verdict’: Congress Alleges EVM Tampering, Accuses BJP of Subverting Haryana Polls

The Congress has rejected the Haryana Assembly election results, alleging electronic voting machine (EVM) tampering and accusing the BJP of undermining the democratic process.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, addressing the media on Tuesday, stated that the party has received “serious complaints” regarding the vote-counting process and the functionality of EVMs in at least three districts.

“I have been in constant communication with the Election Commission (EC) throughout the afternoon. We have exchanged responses regarding these complaints, and we are gathering more information from our senior colleagues in Haryana. This will be presented to the EC in a consolidated form,” Ramesh said. He described the results as “unexpected” and “counter-intuitive,” claiming they defied ground reality.

Earlier, Ramesh had written to the Election Commission, accusing it of delaying the upload of updated vote trends on its website. The EC, in response, dismissed the allegations as “irresponsible” and “unfounded”.

Despite an early lead in the vote count that triggered celebrations in Congress offices in Delhi and Chandigarh, the BJP regained momentum and is expected to comfortably cross the halfway mark of 46 seats. As of the latest updates, the BJP has secured 39 seats and is leading in 10 more.

Congress leader Pawan Khera added that complaints of EVM discrepancies have been reported from Hisar, Mahendragarh, and Panipat, with the party planning to escalate these issues to the EC.
