Deadly Scrub Typhus Claims Life of Mahima Cult Baba in Cuttack Dist

Cuttack: The deadly mite-borne scrub typhus has claimed the life of a ‘baba’ at Mahima Ashram in Anlo village under Niali block in Cuttack district. The deceased was identified as 60-year-old Prabhakar Das.

Prabhakar, while staying in Nayagarh used to enter forests to collect medicinal plants. It is suspected that he was bitten by a mite inside the forest and got infected by scrub typhus.

After he became ill, he was admitted to SUM Hospital in Bhubaneswar. When his health condition deteriorated, he left the hospital and reached his ashram in Anlo village, where he died.

Local medical officers have confirmed that Prabhakar was affected by scrub typhus.

Medical authorities have collected samples of at least 150 persons of the village for testing.
