AAP Claims Delhi CM Atishi Evicted from Official Residence; Bungalow Sealed

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has reportedly been evicted from her official residence, only two days after moving in, according to claims from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) accused Lt Governor Vinai Saxena of “forcibly removing” Atishi’s belongings under the influence of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The Lt Governor’s office has yet to respond to these allegations. The CMO stated, “This is the first instance in the country’s history where a Chief Minister’s residence was vacated. At the BJP’s behest, the Lt Governor forcibly removed Chief Minister Atishi’s belongings.”

Visuals released showed cartons and luggage being taken out of the residence, while sources revealed that a double lock has been placed on the property. They noted that proper documentation regarding the handover of the keys had not been submitted to the Public Works Department (PWD).

This incident has ignited yet another conflict between the AAP and the BJP, with both parties presenting purported documents to bolster their positions. Atishi had recently taken residence in bungalow number 6 on Flagstaff Road in North Delhi’s Civil Lines, following the departure of her predecessor, Arvind Kejriwal, who occupied the home for over nine years.

The BJP claimed that the bungalow had not yet been officially handed over to the PWD for reallocation.

Delhi Assembly Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta shared a letter dated October 6 from the PWD, alleging that Kejriwal had not vacated the bungalow completely and that many of his belongings remain there. The letter indicated that the keys for the residence at 6, Flag Staff Road were taken back shortly after being handed over to the PWD, and the process is incomplete.

In response, the AAP accused the BJP of attempting to “usurp” the bungalow. AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh stated that the property was “yet to be allotted” and criticised the BJP for spreading misinformation, asserting that there is documentary proof of Kejriwal vacating the premises.

The BJP has countered, claiming that Atishi is “illegally” occupying the official residence since she was already allocated the AB-17 bungalow on Mathura Road after being appointed a minister in the Arvind Kejriwal government.
