Delhi Court Rejects Arvind Kejriwal’s Bail Extension Plea, Tihar Stay Continues

New Delhi: Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Wednesday rejected Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s plea to extend his interim bail on medical grounds.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief will now remain in Tihar Jail, where he was previously incarcerated for 40 days.

Kejriwal’s legal team sought an extension until July, hoping to cover the post-election period and new government formation. However, the court denied this request, despite his initial interim bail granted by the Supreme Court on May 10 for the Lok Sabha poll’s final phase.

Kejriwal surrendered to Tihar authorities on June 1 after a symbolic journey through Delhi. He visited Rajghat, Hanuman Mandir, and AAP headquarters before reaching the jail. His previous 21-day stay at Tihar was marked by controversies over his diabetes medication and diet.

The Chief Minister’s request for bail extension on health grounds was unsuccessful. Before returning to jail, Kejriwal stated, “We are disciples of Bhagat Singh, going to jail to save the country. When power becomes a dictatorship, jail becomes a responsibility.”
