A man attacked Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in central Copenhagen on Friday evening.
She faced the attack at a square not far from her home.
Copenhagen police have confirmed the incident but have not revealed details, Swedish Television (SVT) reported.
“Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was beaten on Friday evening at Kultorvet in Copenhagen by a man who was subsequently arrested. The Prime Minister is shocked by the incident,” the Denmark Prime Minister’s office was quoted as saying by the BBC.
The attacker was arrested following the incident. His identity and the motive behind the attack have not been announced yet.
The attack happened two days before Denmark votes in the EU election.
Frederiksen (46) became Prime Minister in 2019 as the youngest prime minister in Danish history.
