ED Recovers Rs 150 Cr Worth Property Documents from IPS Officer’s Husband’s Home

Mumbai: The officials of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) recovered property documents worth around Rs 150 crore from the residence of a Maharashtra cadre IPS officer.

These seizures were made during a search conducted prior to the arrest of her husband in a case related to a Rs 263 crores Income Tax returns fraud, reported India Today.

The search was conducted a few days ago at the IPS officer’s official residence in Colaba. Her husband, Purshottam Chavan, was arrested by the central probe agency on May 5.

The ED officials discovered documents for around fourteen flats in Mumbai and Thane, documents of Transferable Development Rights (TDR) for Mumbai and Pune. According to sources, the total value of the assets related to these documents is around Rs 150 crores.

The property documents are registered in the names of different persons. It is suspected that these could be benami assets.

Chavan was arrested on May 5 under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Earlier, four accused persons were arrested in this case.

Earlier in this case, immovable and movable properties to the tune of Rs 168 crores have been identified and seized/attached so far. Further investigation is in progress.
