Fake Note Racket Busted in Cuttack, One Arrested

Cuttack: Police busted a racket in counterfeit currency notes and arrested one person in the Jagatpur area of Cuttack. According to police sources, the arrested man was trying to release the fake currency notes during the Durga Puja festivities.

The members of this counterfeit note racket were allegedly posing as real estate agents to lure the gullible people to invest in their racket.

The investigating police officials said that the racket came to the fore when the arrested counterfeiter made contact with a local posing as a builder with the promise to help him purchase a patch of land. The racketeer took Rs 1.6 lakh as advance. When the land deal did not materialize, the victim demanded the return of his money.

Then the accused met the victim at a hotel and coaxed him to join their counterfeit currency note racket and earn Rs 1 crore by investing Rs 2.5 lakh.

The victim preferred to inform about it to the police. The police managed to arrest the man, who has been identified as Nirmal Dehuri of Bantala in Angul district. The police have identified Rahas Nayak as the mastermind of the racket. A search is on to nab Nayak.
