Former Rajya Sabha MP, 5-Time MLA Dhaneswar Majhi Passes Away at 83

Bhubaneswar: A five-time MLA from Kesinga and former Rajya Sabha MP Dhaneswar Majhi passes away at the Kesinga Hospital in the Kalahandi district on Wednesday at the age of 83.

Born on July 5, 1941, Majhi delved into politics during his student days. Later he joined the Janata Dal.

His illustrious political journey spanning over four decades included getting elected to the state Assembly five times and also serving as a Rajya Sabha member from 1978 to 1984.

He was elected as the MLA of Narla and Kesinga Assembly seats in 1971, 1974, 2000, 2004, and 2014.

In recent past he had left the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Remembering Majhi’s contributions to Odisha’s development and his dedication to public service, leaders and luminaries of Odisha have expressed their condolences.
