4 Soldiers Killed, 6 Injured As Terrorists Attack Army Convoy In J&K’s Kathua

Srinagar: Four Indian Army soldiers were killed and six others injured in a terrorist attack on a military convoy in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Monday.

The attack occurred in the remote Machedi area, roughly 150 kilometres from Kathua, as the army vehicles were conducting a routine patrol.

According to officials, the terrorists initially launched the attack with a grenade, followed by gunfire. Security forces retaliated, but the militants managed to escape into a nearby forest. A search operation is currently underway to locate the attackers.

This was the second attack on security forces in the region within two days. On Sunday, an army camp in the Rajouri district was targeted, leaving one soldier injured.

The Kathua attack comes a day after six terrorists were killed in separate encounters in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district. The encounters, which began on Saturday, also resulted in the deaths of two soldiers, including a paratrooper, and injuries to another.

The first encounter unfolded in Modergam village after security forces received intelligence about a terrorist presence in the area. A paratrooper was fatally wounded during the initial exchange of gunfire.

The operation escalated into a full-scale assault on a suspected hideout, leading to the destruction of the building and the recovery of two terrorists’ bodies by late Saturday night.

Concurrently, another fierce gunfight erupted in Kulgam’s Frisal area. Drone footage confirmed the elimination of four terrorists following an extended firefight. One soldier was killed and another sustained injuries during this encounter.

The slain terrorists in Frisal have been identified as Yawar Bashir Dar, Zahid Ahmad Dar, Tawheed Ahmad Rather, and Shakeel Ahmad Wani. Those killed in Modergam were identified as Faisal and Adil.
