Fourth Bridge Collapses in Bihar in a Week, This Time in Kishanganj

Patna: Another bridge collapsed in Bihar, which was the fourth case of bridge collapse in a week in the state.

This time a 70-meter bridge on a tributary of the Kankai river connecting Bahadurganj and Dighalbank blocks collapsed. No one was injured in the incident.

Officials said several pillars in the middle of the bridge sunk about one-and-a-half-feet due to the strong current of the water.

Locals said the bridge was built about six years ago.

Three incidents of bridge collapse were reported last week from Siwan and Araria districts on Bihar.

On June 19, a portion of an under-construction bridge over the Bakra river in Bihar’s Araria district, collapsed before its inauguration.  On June 23, a portion of an under-construction bridge, being built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, collapsed in West Champaran district. On June 22, a small bridge on a rivulet of Gandak collapsed in Maharaganj block of Siwan district.
