Ganjam Spurious Liquor Death Toll Rises to 3

Berhampur: The number of deaths due to consumption of spurious liquor in the Chikiti area of Ganjam district rose to three on Saturday as one more person died while undergoing treatment at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

The deceased was admitted to the ICU, where he breathed his last on Saturday morning. Four other affected by the spurious liquor are still undergoing treatment at the hospital.

At least 15 persons from Moundpur, Jenapur and Karabalua village of Chikiti block had consumed illicit country liquor from a local unlicensed outlet. They were admitted to the hospital when their condition deteriorated after consumption of this spurious liquor.

Following the incident, Odisha government suspended Berhampur Excise Superintendent Pradip Panigrahi  and transferred two other excise officials.
