Bhubaneswar: Sridhar Jena, husband of a lady journalist, Madhumita Parida, who was found dead on railway tracks in the Bapuji Nagar area of Bhubaneswar on Wednesday night was arrested by the Commissionerate Police on Thursday.
Police have detained, Sridhar’s brother, who is also an accused in the case. Police had detained both following murder allegations from the family of the deceased female journalist.
Speaking to the media, DCP Prateek Singh said, “Madhumita and Sridhara were not on good terms. Sridhar had threatened to divorce Madhumita for which she was in distress. On July 23, Madhumita had complained at Dhauli police station accusing her husband of not coming home despite being on leave for 12 days. However, the matter was resolved.”
Madhumita worked for a web channel and lived in a rented house in Bapuji Nagar.
Before taking the drastic step, Madhumita reportedly shared a video on social media, revealing the turmoil in her personal life. In the video, she accused her husband of having an affair and expressed her distress over their troubled marriage.
Madhumita explained that her husband’s infidelity and refusal to continue their marriage led to frequent quarrels, impacting her professional life. She expressed her inability to cope with the situation any longer.
Madhumita married Sridhar on March 1 after around five-year relationship. Madhumita in her last video message alleged that her husband, Shridhar, maintained an extramarital relationship even after marrying her.
