INS Arighaat: India’s 2nd Nuclear Submarine Commissioned Into Navy

Visakhapatnam: India has officially commissioned its second nuclear submarine, INS Arighaat, in a ceremony held today in Visakhapatnam. The Arihant-class submarine is a key addition to India’s nuclear triad, significantly boosting the nation’s nuclear deterrence capabilities and contributing to strategic stability in the region, according to the Ministry of Defence.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, present at the commissioning, hailed the event as a major milestone for the nation, highlighting it as evidence of the government’s commitment to achieving self-sufficiency in defence under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

INS Arighaat’s construction involved cutting-edge design, advanced manufacturing technology, and complex engineering. The Defence Ministry emphasised that the submarine features indigenous systems and equipment, all conceptualised, designed, and integrated by Indian scientists, industries, and naval personnel.

Compared to its predecessor INS Arihant, INS Arighaat incorporates significant technological advancements, enhancing India’s ability to deter potential threats and protect its national interests.

Rajnath Singh also lauded the collaborative efforts of the Indian Navy, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), and the industry in bringing this project to fruition. He noted that such achievements not only reinforce the nation’s self-reliance but also stimulate economic growth, particularly in the micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) sector.

“India is rapidly progressing towards becoming a developed nation, and it is crucial to strengthen our defence capabilities in today’s geopolitical context,” the Defence Minister stated. He reiterated the government’s dedication to equipping the military with top-tier, domestically-produced weapons, echoing former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s vision of India as a nuclear-armed state.
