India-Pakistan Match Under ISIS-K Terror Threat, New York Officials Tighten Security

Following a threat from the terrorist organization ISIS-K, the security for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, to be held in the USA and West Indies, has been enhanced.

The cricket tournament received a terror threat, particularly for the match between India and Pakistan on June 9 in New York.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul questioned the credibility of the threat but assured elevated security measures to keep the fans safe. “In preparation for the T20 World Cup 2024, my team has been working with federal & local law enforcement to keep attendees safe. While there is no credible threat at this time, I’ve directed New York Police to elevate security measures & we’ll continue to monitor as the event nears,” posted Hochul on X.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman Blakeman informed about the county’s coordinated efforts to tighten the security along with federal partners such as the FBI, Department of Homeland Security and other law enforcement and homeland security and intelligence agencies.

Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick J. Ryder acknowledged the threat and assured fans of the robust security.

The T20 World Cup will begin on June 1. The first match will be between the hosts USA and Canada. India will play its first match against Ireland on June 05 at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York.
