Hangzhou: In a historic moment at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, the Indian men’s relay team secured the gold medal in the 4x400m relay final. This remarkable achievement was complemented by Avinash Sable’s silver medal in the 5000m race.
The Indian quartet consisting of Muhammad Anas Yahiya, Rajesh Ramesh, Amoj Jacob, and Muhammad Ajmal demonstrated their prowess, clinching first place with a swift timing of 3:01.58. Their outstanding performance propelled India to the top of the podium, leaving Qatar and Sri Lanka in their wake.
While Avinash Sable couldn’t replicate his steeplechase success in the 5000m race, he displayed great determination to secure the second position with an impressive effort clocking in at 13:21.09. The gold medal in the 5000m race went to Bahrain’s Birhanu Yemataw Balew, who set a Games record with a remarkable time of 13:17:40. His compatriot, Dawit Fikadu Admasu, secured the bronze medal with a season-best time of 13:25:63.
Avinash Sable’s silver in the 5000m race added another accolade to his collection, following his earlier gold in the 3000m steeplechase event. It was a close call for Gulveer Singh, who narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing fourth despite a commendable personal best effort of 13:29:93.
