IND vs BAN, 1st T20I: India Win Toss, Opt To Bowl; Mayank, Nitish Make Debut – Check Playing XIs

Gwalior: India will face Bangladesh in the first T20I of a three-match series on Sunday at the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior.

As part of India’s transition under Gautam Gambhir’s coaching, the team aims to identify future stars while seasoned players, including captain Suryakumar Yadav, look to solidify their positions.

India will debut a fresh opening pair, with Suryakumar confirming that Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma will start at the top. Samson, who has struggled to secure a regular place in the team, is now expected to open throughout the series. This marks a pivotal moment for Samson, who has played in 30 T20Is since his debut nearly a decade ago, often shuffled across multiple positions in the lineup.

Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma, fresh off his maiden century against Zimbabwe, will look to impress and secure a permanent spot. However, competition for the opening role remains fierce, with players like Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal also in the fray.

The series also highlights India’s search for the next pace sensation, with stars Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj occupied with Test cricket. Two emerging pacers – Mayank Yadav and Harshit Rana are set to make their mark. Mayank, known for his blistering pace, returns after injury setbacks, while Harshit’s versatility has earned him praise following his impressive performances in the IPL and Duleep Trophy.

In addition, India’s all-round options will be closely watched. Washington Sundar is expected to secure his place, while Riyan Parag’s bowling will be tested. Nitish Kumar Reddy, another rising talent, may have to wait for his chance as Hardik Pandya remains fit and available. Varun Chakravarthy, returning to the national team after three years, adds an intriguing element to India’s bowling attack.

For Bangladesh, this series marks the beginning of a new chapter without veteran Shakib Al Hasan. Young players like leg-spinner Rishad Hossain and batter Towhid Hridoy have the chance to prove themselves.

The newly built Gwalior stadium, hosting its first international match, promises an exciting contest. While conditions may favour slow, low play, both teams are confident in their preparation. No rain is expected, setting the stage for a thrilling opener.
