Bhubaneswar: The judicial commission headed by Justice (Retd) Chitta Ranjan Dash, a former judge of the Orissa and Calcutta High Courts, on Monday started its probe into the alleged assault of an Army officer and his fiancée at Bharatpur police station in Bhubaneswar.
The Commission started its operation at the office set up in the Bhubaneswar Special Circuit House. The commission is expected to issue notifications and invite affidavits from the concerned parties.
Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania and other senior officials were present when the probe process was initiated by the judicial commission.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi ordered a judicial inquiry by Justice Chitta Ranjan Dash following a national uproar over the alleged custodial assault on the Army Captain and his girlfriend.
The Commission is to submit its findings to the state government within 60 days.
The Crime Branch of Odisha Police is also investigating the case.
