Arvind Kejriwal Breaks Silence on Swati Maliwal Assault Case, Demands Fair Probe

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has finally spoken up about the alleged assault on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal, demanding a fair investigation into the incident. In an interview with news agency PTI on Wednesday, Kejriwal said that he expects justice and an impartial probe, as there are two versions of the event.

The controversy erupted on May 13, when Maliwal accused Kejriwal’s aide, Bibhav Kumar, of slapping and kicking her inside the CM’s residence during a visit. Kumar has been arrested, while the AAP has stood by him, alleging that Maliwal is a stooge of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

AAP leaders like Atishi, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Sanjay Singh have defended the party’s stance, but Kejriwal had remained silent until now. In the PTI interview, he acknowledged the matter’s sensitivity, noting that his comments could impact the proceedings. However, he stressed the need for a fair investigation that examines both versions impartially.

Kejriwal clarified that he was not present at the scene when the alleged incident occurred. Kumar is currently in five-day police custody, and investigators are gathering evidence, including data from his phone, which he allegedly formatted before his arrest.

Meanwhile, Maliwal has claimed that there is immense pressure within the party to malign her, with leaders allegedly plotting to leak her personal photos and expel anyone supporting her.
