‘Laapataa Ladies’ to Represent India at Oscars 2025

Mumbai: ‘Laapataa Ladies’ has been selected as India’s official entry for 2025 Oscars under Foreign Film Category, announced Film Federation of India’s Chairman Jahnu Barua on Monday.

The film was selected from all India nominations of 12 Hindi films, 6 Tamil and 4 Malayalam films.

Laapataa Ladies is directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Kiran Rao, Aamir Khan, Jyoti Deshpande. The film has a fresh bunch of actors Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastav, Chhaya Kadam as well as Bhojpuru actor-politician Ravi Kishan.

Laapataa Ladies is based on an award-winning story by Biplab Goswami. It had had a screening at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) last year.

It was released in theatres in India on March 1 and it received appaluses by critics and audiences alike. It also garnered a huge fanbase after its streamed on Netflix.
