‘Love Jihad’ Case in UP; Married Woman Raped Before Conversion Attempt, 3 Arrested

Lucknow: Three persons were arrested in connection with the rape of a married woman and an attempt to forcefully convert her religion in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district.

The investigating police officials termed it a case of ‘love jihad’. The prime accused Arif Khan had lured the victim by posing as a Hindu man and later raped her.

According to the victim’s complaint, she had developed a telephonic friendship with an unknown person, who identified himself as Abhay Mishra. On March 24, when the married woman visited her parents in Mirzapur, Arif also arrived there and took her to Ambala.

In Ambala, the woman discovered the true religious identity of Arif Khan and decided to snap ties with him. Arif then restrained the woman against her will for 25 days and sexually exploited her. He also filmed the act to blackmail the woman.

According to the police sources, the accused also forced the victim to offer namaz, wear burqa and celebrate Eid while she was held captive.

The victim managed to escape. She and her husband filed a complaint against Arif with the Mirzapur police.

After investigation, along with Arif, police also arrested his brother Imroz Khan and friend Shahabuddin.
