Man Kills His Infant Son & Slits Throat of His Daughter Over Dowry Dispute in Nuapada Dist; Arrested

Nuapada: A man was arrested by the personnel of the Boden police station in the Nuapada district for allegedly killing his 14-month-old son and making murder attempt on his 10-year-old daughter. The inhuman accused drowned his 14-month-old son in a pond and stabbed his 10-year-old daughter to death.

The accused has been identified as Kishore Majhi from Kutiapada village under Boirgaon Panchayat in Nuapada district. He had married Jayanti Majhi of the same village around 12 years back. They had two daughters, Kamalakanti (10) and Laxmikanti (8), and a 14-month-old son, Chandan. Both Kishore and Jayanti were menial labourers who also used to migrate outside Odisha in search of work.

It is alleged that the couple was having regular domestic tussles over dowry. Kishore used to assault Jayanti physically for dowry.

On Tuesday afternoon, the couple had a heated altercation over the dowry issue. Irked over it, Jayanti left for her parents’ house leaving behind the children with her husband.

It is alleged that Kishore took the children to the forest to kill them. His eldest daughter sensed something fishy and managed to escape from the spot.

After the eldest daughter ran away, Jayant is alleged to have drowned his 14-month-old son in a pond inside the forest. He then attacked his daughter Lakshmi with a knife. Laxmi was rescued in critical condition and was admitted to a hospital in Boden. Her condition is stated to be critical as her throat has been slit and two of her fingers have been severed.

After the gruesome incident got reported, the local police tracked down the accused inside the forest where he was hiding and arrested him.
