Man Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Killing 11-Yr-Old Girl After Rape Attempt

Sundargarh: A man named Sumit Minj was convicted by a Special POSCO court in Sundargarh and was sentenced to undergo life imprisonment for killing an 11-year-old girl after attempting to rape her.

According to the chargesheet, on Feb 2, 2017, the convict lured the 11-year-old victim from the Kantabahal village in Sundargarh district to come with him, while she was playing with her friends. The convict took her to a nearby jungle and attempted to rape her.

When the girl screamed for help, Sumit strangulated her and then crushed her to death with a stone. He also beheaded the girl, after she died.

The victim’s father had registered a missing complaint a day after the incident. Later police recovered the victim’s headless body from the nearby forest.

Apart from awarding life imprisonment, the court also slapped a penalty of Rs 20,000 on the convict. Failing to pay the fine, the convict would have to undergo an additional one-year imprisonment.
