7 of Family Dead After Short Circuit Triggers Fire in Mumbai Building

Mumbai: A devastating fire ripped through a double-storey shop-cum-residential building in Mumbai’s Chembur early Sunday morning, claiming the lives of seven family members, including a young seven-year-old girl.

The blaze, classified as a ‘level one’ fire, broke out around 5:20 AM on the ground floor of the structure, which was used as a shop. The fire quickly spread to the upper floor, where the family resided.

Officials reported that the fire was triggered by faulty electric wiring and installations in the shop.

Among the victims identified are Paris Gupta (7), Manju Prem Gupta (30), Anita Gupta (39), Prem Gupta (30) and Narendra Gupta (10).

Authorities are still working to identify the two remaining victims.
