Naveen Patnaik Chairs Meeting of BJD Rajya Sabha MPs As The Party Has No MPs in Lok Sabha

Bhubaneswar: As the BJD has failed to have a single MP in the Lok Sabha, the party chief Naveen Patnaik held a meeting of its Rajya Sabha members in Bhubaneswar on Monday to discuss the future course of action of the party in the Parliament.

This meeting of the BJD Rajya Sabha MPs was chaired by BJD president Naveen Patnaik. All the nine Rajya Sabha MPs of the BJD attended this meeting held at Naveen Niwas.

In the past, the BJD always extended issue-based support to the BJP-led government at the Centre. In the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls, the BJD failed to win even one of the 21 Lok Sabha seats in Odisha. The BJP won in 20 Lok Sabha seats and  the Congress won in one.

But the BJD with nine members in Rajya Sabha can play a key role in the upper house of Parliament.

It is to be seen whether the regional party will continue to extend support to the BJP-led NDA government or it will start to oppose the saffron party’s policies in the Rajya Sabha.
