New Delhi: India’s Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra created history on Monday clinching the country’s first-ever gold medal at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
Neeraj surpassed Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem by less than a meter at the final of the men’s javelin throw event.
Now Neeraj Chopra has the full set of global medals, including the Olympic Gold medal, the Diamond Trophy and the World Championships Gold medal.
Neerak gave India its 3rd medal at the World Athletics Championships after Anju Bobby George’s bronze medal in women’s long jump and Neeraj’s silver medal at the World Championships last year in Eugene.
Neeraj Chopra came up with a best effort of 88.17m in his second attempt to top the high-quality men’s javelin field.
Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem won his maiden silver medal with a best effort of 87.8 2. Jakub Vadlejch, the Olympic silver medalist, took the bronze with 86.67m.
Another Indian contestant DP Manu, the Asian Athletics silver medalist, finished 6th with a best effort of 84.14m.
Odisha’s Kishore Jena finished 5th with a new personal best of 84.77m.
It was the first time 3 Indians made it to the final of men’s javelin in the World Athletics Championships.
