Nepal Imposes Ban on Everest, MDH Spices

New Delhi: Amid concerns over the presence of harmful chemicals in their products, Nepal has banned the consumption and sale of spices produced by Everest and MDH.

Singapore and Hong Kong have already put restrictions on sell of Everest and MDH spices.

Nepal’s Department of Food Technology and Quality Control is now testing the spices from the two Indian brands for ethylene oxide that causes cancer.

Nepal government has banned the import of Everest and MDH brand spices as well as stopped their sale in the market.

The spices of Everest and MDH are also under scrutiny in New Zealand, the United States and Australia.

In April, the Hong Kong food safety body banned four spice products of these two brands. Later Singapore’s Food Agency (SFA) put restrictions on Everest’s Fish Curry Masala due to presence of ethylene oxide exceeding permissible levels.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has ordered quality checks on products of MDH and Everest.
