No More Ganja Use in Temples; Odisha Govt Bans Weed Use in Shiva Shrines

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government took the decision to ban the use of marijuana at all Lord Shiva shrines across the State.

Odia Language Literature and Culture Department of the state government directed all district collectors and Superintendents of Police (SP) to initiate measures to check the use of cannabis on the premises of Shiva temples.

According to sources, ganja is not offered to the deity at Lingaraj temple in Bhubaneswar. But at the Akhandalamani shrine marijuana is used during the ‘Gharsana’ ritual it is offered to the devotees. In the past Padma Shri Baba Balia had written to the state government urging for a ban on ganja use at Shiva shrines.

But some persons claim that the consumption of marijuana is an offering to Lord Shiva.
