Odisha Forms Committee for Medical Education in Odia

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has taken a significant step towards providing medical education in the local language.

A 22-member committee, led by Prof Manash Ranjan Sahoo, Vice-Chancellor of Odisha University of Health Sciences (OUHS), has been established to explore the implementation of MBBS courses in Odia.

The committee’s key responsibilities include identifying essential MBBS textbooks for translation into Odia, assessing the scope of the translation project, determining a timeline for completion, and estimating the budget required for the initiative.

The Health and Family Welfare Department has requested the committee to submit its proposal within 15 days for further action. This move aims to make medical education more accessible to Odia-speaking students and potentially improve healthcare delivery in the state.
