Odisha Safe As Cyclone Mandous Set To Thwack TN, AP, Puducherry Coasts

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a depression that has formed in the Bay of Bengal will intensify on Wednesday into a cyclonic storm, bringing extremely heavy rains to Tamil Nadu. As a result, the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry have been put on alert.

Cyclone Mandous will impact portions of the coasts of Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, and Tamil Nadu. However, it presents no threats to the Odisha coasts as per the latest IMD release.

Ten teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been stationed in numerous districts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, as a preventative measure. Additionally, relief camps have been established in low-lying areas, and on the coastline side, effective medical facilities will be built.

“Depression concentrated into a Deep Depression and lay centred at 0530hrs IST of 7th Dec, 2022 over Southeast and adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal about 770 km east-southeast of Karaikal and about 830 km southeast of Chennai,” the IMD said in its latest update.

It will further intensify into a cyclonic storm that is expected to make landfall on the shores of north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry and adjacent south Andhra Pradesh by December 8 and continue moving westward for the next 48 hours.
