As per the latest bulletin from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a well-marked low-pressure area over west-central Bay of Bengal has developed into a depression, currently centred over the central Bay. It is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm by May 25 morning and may cross Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts.

The Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, and Mayurbhanj districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall from May 25 to May 28, with wind speeds reaching up to 120 kmph. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the south Bay of Bengal, and those already at sea are urged to return to the coast. Distant cautionary signals are to be hoisted at all ports in Odisha.
The SRC has instructed district collectors to closely monitor the situation, ensure compliance with IMD advisories for fishermen, and keep the district administrations prepared for any emergencies.
