IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert for Odisha Districts, Wind Warning Along North Coast

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall in parts of Odisha, cautioning residents of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, and Keonjhar districts for the next 24 hours.

According to the IMD’s forecast, strong surface winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kilometres per hour are expected along and off the North Odisha coast during this period. Fishermen have been advised to exercise caution and avoid venturing into the sea.

The IMD has also predicted thunderstorms with lightning at isolated places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur districts on July 1 and 2.

While Bhubaneswar is expected to experience partly cloudy skies with a chance of rain or thundershowers on July 1, the IMD predicts light to moderate rain or thundershowers to continue across Odisha until July 7.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur in one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, and Keonjhar. Thunderstorms with lightning are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 02.07.2024to 0830 hrs IST of 03.07.2024)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur.
