Odisha’s Naima Khatoon Creates History as 1st Woman VC of Aligarh Muslim University

New Delhi: Naima Khatoon, who hails from Odisha’s Jajpur district, created history by becoming the first woman vice-chancellor of the prestigious Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). Her appointment was approved by the President of India Droupadi Murmu as well as the Election Commission in view of the model code of conduct being in place for the Lok Sabha elections.

Khatoon took charge from her spouse Professor Mohammad Gulrez who was earlier officiating as pro vice-chancellor.

Prof. Naima Khatoon served as Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Psychology before joining as Principal, Women’s College in July 2014. She also taught in the National University of Rwanda, Central Africa for one academic year. Professor Naima Khatoon holds a PhD degree in Political Psychology.

She has authored/co-authored/edited six books and published a number of papers in the Journals of National and International repute.
