Pakistan Presidential Polls on March 9, Zardari is Frontrunner

The voting to elect Pakistan’s new President will be held on March 9, the Pakistan Election Commission announced on Friday.

According to recent political happenings, former President Asif Ali Zardari is almost certain to get elected to the post again after nearly 11 years. Zardari was the president of Pakistan from 2008 to 2013.

The new President would replace incumbent Arif Alvi, whose term ended in 2023 but has continued due to the absence of the National Assembly and provincial assemblies which were dissolved in August 2023.

The polling for the presidential election will be held on March 9 from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm Pakistan local time in the Parliament House and the four provincial assemblies of Pakistan.

Interested candidates are to submit their nomination papers on March 2. The scrutiny of nomination papers is scheduled to take place on March 4, and the final list of candidates will be displayed on March 5.

The Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan will take up the role of the Returning Officer for the presidential election, supervising the entire voting process.

The alliance of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), has nominated Asif Ali Zardari as its candidate for the presidency.
