Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls will end on Tuesday as voting is underway for the final 40 seats in the third phase of the elections.
Till 11 am, there was a voter turnout of 28.12 per cent. In the third phase of polling, 24 seats are in the Jammu division, while 16 are in Kashmir.
After counting of votes, the results will be announced on October 8.
The voters in 16 assembly segments in three border districts of north Kashmir are voting amid tight security on Tuesday. After eight Scheduled Tribe-reserved seats voted in the first two phases, the last ST seat – Gurez – is having polling in this phase. This phase is also witnessing voting in all of J&K’s seven Scheduled Caste-reserved seats, including Akhnoor, Bishnah, Kathua, Marh, Ramgarh, Ramnagar, and Suchetgarh. All of them are located in the Jammu division.
According to the Election Commission, the second phase of the J&K polls on September 25 recorded a voter turnout of 57.31 per cent. In the first phase of polling on September 18 in 24 constituencies, the EC recorded a turnout of 61.38 per cent.
