Phiringia PS Arson, Total Arrests Rise to 21 With 2 Brothers Nabbed

Phulbani: Two brothers, Chandrasekhar Behera and Bighneswar Behera were arrested on Wednesday in connection to the arson at Phiringia police station in Odisha’s Kandhamal district on August 5. The total number of arrests in the Phiringia police station mayhem case rose to 21.

The duo was nabbed from Gadarangia village under Tikabali police limits.

According to sources, a total of 40 persons were booked in connection to Phiringia police station arson.

A mob of locals torched the Phiringia police station alleging the involvement of personnel of the police station in illegal ganja trading.

According to sources, Phiringia sarpanch Jalandhar Kahanr and former sarpanch Biswaranjan Kahanr on August 3 night saw a police vehicle loaded with ganja going to Budhakamba village to sell the contraband to a peddler.

The duo along with several villagers intercepted the vehicle and made videos of the incident on their mobile phones. It is alleged that no action was initiated although they sent the video clips to the higher authorities of the district police.

This irked the locals who resorted to the violent activity.
