New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on his first international trip after assuming office for a historic third consecutive term. His destination is the picturesque Borgo Egnazia resort in Italy’s Apulia region, where he will attend the annual G7 summit of advanced economies from June 13 to 15.
The summit, hosted by the current G7 presidency holder Italy, is expected to be dominated by discussions on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and the conflict in Gaza.
Among the notable leaders attending the summit are US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is also set to participate in a session focusing on the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
While official confirmation is pending, sources reveal that PM Modi plans to depart on June 13 and return late on June 14. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra, and NSA Ajit Doval.
During his visit, PM Modi is expected to engage in bilateral meetings, including one with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Notably, PM Modi had previously attended the G7 summit in Hiroshima in May last year, where he held discussions with Zelenskyy and other leaders.
