PM Modi Launches PARAM Rudra Supercomputers, Highlights Big Vision for Tech Growth

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday, highlighted the importance of a big vision for achieving significant milestones, while launching three indigenously developed PARAM Rudra supercomputers under the National Supercomputing Mission. Speaking via video conference, Modi stressed that technology upgrades should empower the poor and that India is unlocking new possibilities.

PM Modi noted that the National Supercomputing Mission, initiated in 2015, has now propelled quantum computing, benefiting sectors such as IT, manufacturing, MSMEs and startups. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to advancing science, technology and research, adding that Mission Gaganyan is progressing, with India’s own space station expected by 2035.

The three supercomputers, built at a cost of ₹130 crore, have been installed in Pune, Delhi and Kolkata to drive cutting-edge scientific research.

In addition, Modi inaugurated an ₹850 crore High-Performance Computing system aimed at weather and climate research, calling the day a major achievement for India’s science and technology sector.

PM Modi stressed that computing power is crucial across all sectors, adding that India’s ambition should not be limited to small-scale contributions but should span terabytes and petabytes, reflecting the nation’s progress in the field.

Highlighting India’s strides in the semiconductor ecosystem, PM Modi noted its growing role in the global supply chain.
