Police Outpost Torched in Bengal After Locals Find Missing Girl’s Body, Allegedly Raped-Murdered

Kolkata: An angry mob of villagers torched a police outpost after the discovery of the body of a missing 10-year-old girl in a marshy land in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district on Saturday. The girl was missing since Friday.

Villagers alleged that the minor was raped and murdered. They blamed the police for not taking action on their complaint immediately.

The body of the girl was found by locals in the Jaynagar area on Saturday morning. Following it, a mob torched the police outpost and pelted stones at the cops. They also damaged vehicles parked outside the outpost.

Additional force was rushed to the area and tear gas shells were fired to quell the mob which tried to restrain the SDPO and other senior personnel at the spot.

The villagers threatened to continue their agitation till all those behind the alleged rape and murder of the minor girl were punished. They also demanded action against the policemen who allegedly responded to the complaint late.

The police, however, said the action was taken immediately after the complaint was received and an accused was arrested in connection with the alleged rape and murder of the girl.
