Port Louis: President Droupadi Murmu on a state visit to Mauritius announced a special provision for 7th generation Indian-origin Mauritians to be eligible for the Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. This move aims to strengthen people-to-people ties and reconnect Mauritians with their ancestral land.
With the extension of OCI Card eligibility to Indian origin Mauritians of the 7th generation, many more young Mauritians will be able to reconnect to the land of their ancestors.

President Murmu also announced India’s support for the redevelopment of the sacred Ganga Talao complex into a religious, cultural, and tourist hub. This collaboration reflects the deep respect between the two nations for shared cultural values.
The President also praised Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth for his leadership and commitment to enhancing the special partnership between India and Mauritius. She affirmed India’s dedication to supporting Mauritius on its journey of development and prosperity.
President Murmu expressed delight in participating as the Chief Guest of Mauritius’ 56th National Day celebrations, lauding the country’s development, democracy, and diversity. She paid homage to the ancestors who contributed to Mauritius’ growth, acknowledging their sacrifices and resilience.
