Puri Chandan Yatra Explosion: 4 Fireworks Traders Detained by Police

Puri: Personnel of the Kumbharpara police station in Puri detained four fireworks traders from the Gop and Chharichhak areas for interrogation regarding the tragic explosion during Chandan Yatra in Puri on May 29 that claimed 13 lives.

The explosion occurred when a pile of firecrackers caught fire during Chandan Yatra festivities at Narendra Puskarani on May 29 night. The deceased included several children. Seventeen other injured are under treatment in hospitals in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

The state government has ordered a high-level probe into the incident. The Chief Minister has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh for the families of each of the deceased, along with free treatment for the injured.
