Red Alert for Heavy Rains in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore Districts; Orange and Yellow Warning For….

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a red alert for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Balasore districts  in Odisha as they are expected to face isolated heavy to extremely heavy rainfall and thunderstorms on Sunday. Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Balasore districts are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, ranging from 7-20 cm, with isolated areas expected to receive over 20 cm of rainfall. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also forecasted.

IMD issued an orange alert for five districts – Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Angul, and Dhenkanal. They are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on Sunday.

Meanwhile, 13 districts – Deogarh, Sundargarh, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Nawarangpur – have been placed under a yellow alert, with predictions of heavy rainfall.

Thunderstorms with lightning are very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Puri, Khurda, Sonepur, Nuapada, Bolangir, Koraput and Malkangiri”, read the weather bulletin for September 15.

According to the IMD, Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur districts are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, ranging from 7-20 cm, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places on September 16.

Meanwhile, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Sonepur, Bargarh, and Mayurbhanj districts are expected to receive heavy rainfall, ranging from 7-11 cm, along with thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places. The regional weather office has issued a yellow warning to these districts.
