Rogue Tusker That Claimed 4 Lives Tranquilized & Captured in Mayurbhanj Dist

Baripada: A rogue wild elephant that had killed four persons during past three days was tranquilized and captured by forest officials in the Baripada range of Mayurbhanj district on Thursday night.

After creating havoc in Shuliapada and Betanati areas, this violent elephant had entered the Baripada forest range. On Thursday morning it had trampled a woman to death, which pressed the forest department to call up an emergency meeting to end the panic of this wild pachyderm.

With support of four trained mahouts from Assam, an operation was taken up to tranquilize and capture the rogue elephant. The team used two specially equipped vehicles carrying nets, and other necessary equipment to track down the elephant and tranquilize it.

They managed to tranquillize the wild elephant bringing  sigh of relief to the panicked villagers.

Environmental activists suspected that past cruelty by humans may be the reason behind its present aggressive nature.

According to forest officials, the captured elephant was shifted to Kapilas for treatment. After treatment it would again be released in its natural habitat in the forest.
