New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed deep shock over the tragic fire in Kuwait’s Mangaf city that claimed the lives of 41 individuals, including several Indians.
The blaze broke out in a six-floor residential building at 6 am local time (9 am IST), leading to over 50 hospitalisations, with many Indian nationals among the injured.
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Jaishankar conveyed his condolences, stating, “Deepest condolences to the families of those who tragically lost their lives. Wish early and full recovery to those who have been injured. Our Embassy will render fullest assistance.”
Deeply shocked by the news of the fire incident in Kuwait city. There are reportedly over 40 deaths and over 50 have been hospitalized. Our Ambassador has gone to the camp. We are awaiting further information.

The Indian Embassy in Kuwait has responded swiftly, issuing a helpline number and confirming that Ambassador Adarsh Swaika visited the injured at Al-Adan Hospital. Indians make up approximately 30% of Kuwait’s workforce, roughly nine lakhs.

The fire, which has since been contained, broke out in a building primarily housing workers. According to reports, a senior police commander noted that “dozens were rescued, but unfortunately, many deaths occurred due to smoke inhalation.”
An inquiry into the incident is currently underway.
