Santosh Sivan Becomes First Asian to Bag Cinematography Award at Cannes

Mumbai: India’s ace cinematographer Santosh Sivan will be honoured with the prestigious Pierre Angénieux ExcelLens in Cinematography award at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.

Sivan is the first Asian recipient of this esteemed award for exceptional contributions to the art of cinematography.

A conference held at the Bharat Pavilion celebrated Sivan’s accomplishment.

Santosh Sivan’s illustrious career includes more than 55 feature films and numerous documentaries. He is remembered for films like ‘Roja,’ ‘Thalapathi,’ ‘Dil Se,’ and ‘Iruvar’.

Sivan has left his mark in international projects like ‘Bride and Prejudice’ by Gurinder Chadha and ‘Meenaxi’ for M.F. Hussain. The Pierre Angénieux ExcelLens in Cinematography award, introduced at Cannes in 2013, pays homage to the pioneers of cinematography.
