India Develops SEBEX 2, Ultra-Powerful Non-Nuclear Bomb Twice as Lethal as TNT

New Delhi: The Indian Navy has certified SEBEX 2, a very powerful explosive developed by Economic Explosives Ltd, a subsidiary of Solar Industries based in Nagpur. This new formulation is reported to be twice as lethal as conventional Trinitrotoluene (TNT), positioning it among the world’s most powerful non-nuclear explosives.

SEBEX 2 aims to enhance artillery shells and warheads without increasing weight. It was tested under the Navy’s Defence Export Promotion Scheme and developed as part of the “Make in India” initiative, using a high-melting explosive (HMX) based composition.

The company has developed three new explosive formulations, with officials stating they could be “game changers” for India’s armed forces due to their enhanced firepower and explosive effects.

Explosive performance is measured by TNT equivalence, with higher equivalence indicating greater lethality and destructive power. Conventional explosives like DENTEX/TORPEX have a TNT equivalence of 1.25-1.30.

The Indian Navy hailed this development as a step towards “Aatma Nirbharta” (self-reliance) in defense, emphasizing its potential to boost weapon and ammunition potency.

Looking ahead, Economic Explosives Ltd is reportedly working on another variant with an explosive power 2.3 times that of TNT.
