Security Tightened in New Delhi for PM Modi’s Historic Swearing-In Ceremony

New Delhi: Security has been significantly heightened in parts of Delhi ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony on Sunday, officials confirmed. A robust multi-layer security setup, comprising five companies of paramilitary personnel, NSG commandos, and snipers, has been established around the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Drone cameras are also being utilised for aerial surveillance.

“Over 2,500 police personnel, including paramilitary and Delhi Armed Police (DAP) jawans, have been deployed at the venue,” stated a Delhi Police officer. “Traffic movement will be restricted, diversions will be in place, and barricades installed to ensure no breaches in law and order,” the officer added.

This marks Narendra Modi’s historic third consecutive term as Prime Minister. The national capital is on high alert, especially with dignitaries from SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) nations attending the ceremony. Leaders from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bhutan, Nepal, Mauritius, and Seychelles will be present.

“We have designated routes from the hotels to the venue and back. During this period, vehicle movement for the public will be restricted, and information on diverted routes has been disseminated,” the officer explained. Notable hotels like Leela, Taj, ITC Maurya, Claridges, and Oberoi are under stringent security.

Commandos from Delhi Police’s SWAT and NSG have conducted route checks and established deployments. “Forces are strategically positioned around the President’s house and key locations for the event,” another senior police officer noted.
