Sensex, Nifty Breach Records for 4th Straight Day

Mumbai: Benchmark indices continued their record-breaking streak on Thursday, with the Sensex crossing the 81,000 mark for the first time and the Nifty reaching a new high of 24,800.

The Sensex rose by 626.91 points to close at 81,343.46, bouncing back from early lows of 80,390.37. Key gains were driven by IT, oil & gas, and FMCG sectors.

In afternoon trading, the Sensex surged by 806 points to hit an intra-day peak of 81,522.55, supported by strong buying in IT stocks like TCS, Infosys, and Tech Mahindra, alongside heavyweight Reliance Industries. The broader Nifty also saw a significant rise, closing at 24,800.85, up 187.85 points from its previous close, and peaking at 24,837.75 during the day.

Investor sentiment was buoyed by robust quarterly performances from leading IT firms and expectations of a US Fed rate cut.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) showed increased interest, with net equity purchases amounting to Rs 1,271.45 crore on Tuesday.

Global markets showed mixed trends, with Asian markets closing mixed and European markets trading higher.
