New Delhi: Sharad Pawar has moved the Supreme Court with a fresh plea, aiming to prevent his nephew, Ajit Pawar, from using the Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) iconic “Clock” symbol in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections.
In his submission, Sharad Pawar contends that Ajit Pawar should apply for a new election symbol to avoid potential voter confusion. The plea stresses the importance of ensuring fairness and transparency in the electoral process.
The senior Pawar, who was temporarily assigned the “Man Blowing a Turha” symbol by the Election Commission of India, highlighted the NCP’s 25-year-long association with the “Clock” symbol under his leadership as the party’s National President. He argues that allowing Ajit Pawar to use the symbol could mislead voters and compromise the fairness of the elections.
The petition also mentions instances of voter confusion in the recent parliamentary elections, noting that the issue could be magnified in the assembly elections due to the smaller constituencies.
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the case on October 15.
