New Delhi: A Sikh group staged a protest outside Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s residence in Delhi, condemning his recent comments on the condition of Sikhs in India. The demonstrators attempted to breach police barricades at Janpath Road during the protest.
The agitation follows Gandhi’s remarks on religious freedom, made during his four-day visit to the US. Speaking at an event in Herndon, Virginia, Gandhi questioned whether Sikhs would continue to enjoy their religious rights in India. “The fight is about whether a Sikh will be allowed to wear his turban or kada or visit a gurdwara. And this fight isn’t just for Sikhs but for all religions,” he said.
His statement sparked criticism from the BJP, accusing him of creating a “dangerous narrative” by addressing sensitive issues abroad.
The protestors displayed placards accusing Gandhi of defaming the Sikh community internationally, chanting slogans such as “Shame on you, Rahul Gandhi.”
