Special Grant for Odisha Universities, Colleges to Promote Sports, Culture, Social Work

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government will provide special grants to the universities and colleges in the state to motivate the students to take active participation in sports, culture and social work.

According to reports, the state Higher Education department will allocate funds for the scheme under Integrated Youth Development Programme (IYDP) to government colleges, government aided colleges and universities as per their student strength.

According to Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, Minister of Higher Education, this scheme will cover 687 higher education institutions in Odisha.

Under the scheme, each higher educational institution having student strength of more than 2,000 will get a grant of Rs 9 lakh to promote these activities.

The institutions with 1,000 to 2,000 students will get Rs 6 lakh and those having 500-1,000 students will be eligible for Rs 4 lakh grant.

The institutions having 200-500 students will get Rs 3 lakh and those with 100-150 students will be sanctioned Rs 1.5 lakh.

All these educational institutions organize competitions in the field of sports, culture and social work related activities from November 15 to December 31.

This scheme will also involve youth festivals at the district and state level.
